What is Beach Access North East?
Fancy taking in the beach scenery? Want to hear the gentle lap of the tide? Well, no look further! Beach Access North East is a charity dedicated to getting everybody on the beach; they do this by providing free equipment for wheelchair users so that they can visit the beach.
You can loan their equipment for free at:
- South Shields
- Whitley Bay
Please check the locations for equipment available.
BANE is devoted to its users, using its services to promote social inclusion as BANE recognises that visiting beaches isn’t always accessible. Therefore, BANE strives to make beach days accessible to everybody. Furthermore, their aim is to unite people from different backgrounds and encourage exploration, of beaches and friendships! Beach Access North East also works hard to enhance the lives of users by enabling them to take in the raw beauty of the North East coast. Let’s come together and celebrate nature together!
BANE has a variety of equipment that people can use. Their equipment currently includes:
- Hippocambe; is an all-terrain beach wheelchair
- Yellow Wheels; these can be pushed into shallow water as the material dries quickly
- Freedom Trax; booked by appointment only
- Nomad Desert; allows user to remain in their own wheelchair which is pushed onto the Nomad Desert.
- Beachster; has the option to self-propel or push
- Nomad Tundra
Volunteers are only available to hand out and collect equipment, unfortunately they can’t join you on your adventure! However, if you wish to cut your trip short, ring the on-duty volunteer to let them know. You’ll be given the phone number of the on-duty volunteer when you collect the equipment.
So, get your buckets and spades at the ready! Book your use of BANE’s equipment today!
Moreover, BANE is a free service, click here to donate funds!
