Background of Binchester Fort

Binchester Fort, located in the small and quaint village of Binchester, was made during 80 AD and happens to be one of the biggest military forts in the UK. This being more true even after it was reduced in size on 160 AD.

During 2009 to 205 large amounts of excavation were performed in order to analyse and record all the remains of the roman fort.

Things to do 

  • There is many activities to take part in, such as, re-enactment days.
  • Take part in various workshops and learn about the past. Such as, taking part in ancient craft.
  • You can explore the many remains of the fort, such as, the bath-houses.
  • you can book guided tours to learn about everything the fort has to offer.

Assistance dogs are allowed on site for those who may need it.

The site is accessible for wheelchairs because it has level access around the fort.

Parking bays are available for use. In addition, there is disabled toilets for use.

Unfortunately, public transport is limited making it a bit tricky for people who use public transport to get around.
