Covid update: Botanic Gardens are operating reduced opening hours which are currently Monday-Friday from 10.00am to 2.30pm only, with free entry to the end of March 2021. Please be aware the Visitor Centre, toilet facilities, greenhouses and bird hide will remain closed until further notice.
Set in beautiful mature woodlands, the 10 hectare university Botanic Garden is open to the public.
The Botanic Garden is a leading attraction in Durham, with guests young and old visiting year round. The gardens include; a winter garden, bamboo grove, alpine garden, glass houses and our recently developed woodland garden and wild flower meadow.
Activities and events are run for children and families during holiday times, check out the website for different events and activities catering for specialist interests. Local artists display their work in the coffee shop, which rotates on a monthly basis.
