Since 2015, Cakes and Ale has supplied Carlisle with an excellent selection of light lunches, cakes and coffee. Connected to Bookends and Bookcase, independent bookshops with an extensive collection of new and second hand texts, Cakes and Ale is the perfect place to enjoy new reading material or meet friends in their cosy vintage style café in the back of a 5-story Georgian house. In good weather you are also able to enjoy their vibrant garden space. They sell a wide range of cakes and light lunches and coffee sold by award-winning local company John Watt & Son.
When you have finished your coffee, take a look around Bookends and the Bookcase. Adjoining bookshops owned by the same family as Cakes and Ale, these establishments flow into each other. They create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for their visitors whether you are there for food or to shop. As well as being the ideal spot for lunch, the café also hosts a range of book launches, quizzes and musical events. See their Facebook page for more details.
