Imagine you have come to or live in the historic city of county Durham and you want to buy something uniquely Durham-like for either you or a loved one, Discovering Durham is the shop for you. The shelves are chockablock with produce from local companies. There is meat, cheese, candy, jams and preserves along with art to be sold. Some of the sales assistants are in fact the producers of some of these goods.
The lighting of the Discovering Durham floor is good. Both the entrance and the shop floor are flat and one can easily navigate with a pushchair or wheelchair around the. The shop assistants are very happy to describe the goods available to you especially if you have an obvious visual impairment. Whilst staff are not autism or dementia trained they are happy to help where ever possible. The floor has no pattern upon it and so may be more dementia friendly than others.
