What is Durham County Carers Support?
Durham County Carers Support (DCCS) is a carer-centred service. DCCS supports carers who work in the Durham and Darlington areas. DCCS has been supporting unpaid carers across County Durham for over 20 years. They strive to improve the wellbeing of carers over the age of 18 and to empower them to care for their own needs as well as others.
To accomplish their aims, DCCS offers a great range of confidential support services to carers in local and accessible venues. Their services include but are not limited to:
With many years of experience, volunteers at Durham County Carers Support deeply understand the challenges and experiences that people with caring roles go through. They will listen to your concerns without judgement and offer impartial advice. Though they are also there for you for casual chats as carers can often become quite lonely and overwhelmed by their responsibilities. The 20 support groups that work in tandem with DCCS also provide similar invaluable support.
Through DCCS, you can also apply for Carers Discount Card. This card enables carers to go out and enjoy services and that they might otherwise have missed due to financial strain related to their caring role.
Be sure to check out their website to learn more about how you can get involved or how to access their services. Their Facebook is also a great place to keep up to date with events, information and general updates.
You don’t live in Durham or Darlington? Well don’t worry! People who live in Sunderland and the surrounding area can access similar carer-specific support services at the Sunderland Carers Centre.
