All main rail links will go to Darlington, this is your nearest 'large station' from there, you can get a train to Bishop Auckland, and then a bus/taxi from Bishop Auckland to Shildon (about 15 minutes as the crow flies).
There is! The car park is just up a slope from the main entrance, usually plenty of space, quite large.
The museum has a gravel carpark and although located down a sloped, short road, once you get in (level and wide doorways) is very open plan and flat inside. The site is partly open air, meaning some attractions are outside and to access everything there is about 1km of pathway to see everything. There are steps up to a lot of the trains/carriages, these are only accessed via steps.
