Mencap, founded by Judy Fryd, has been around for many years, since 1946 to be exact, with one purpose in mind. This purpose being raising awareness of the lack of services for disabled children. This is because Judy was unable to get any support for her daughter’s disability, which lead to her being sent away from a mainstream school and thus the creation and foundation of The National Association of Parents of Backward Children.

They are known for doing various different campaigns in order to get their word across UK that way children with disabilities are able to live healthy lives. More information about this can be found on their website.

To help  out the charity you can do a number of different things such as;

  • A number of volunteer roles, such as retail and visiting.
  • You can also donate.
  • You can leave gifts in your will.

The organisation’s main office is not accessible. This is because, the door is not wide enough for wheelchairs. In addition, there is no accessibility toilets. Not to mention, there is no disabled parking nearby. There is a bus stop nearby so getting to the main office from the bus stop isn’t to difficult.
