Keeping coal mining alive is what the National Coal Mining Museum strives to do. Delving deep into the past is what they do, all in the aim to pass on the stories, history and future of coal mining.
You can explore the area around the coal mine or the museum. The museum has lots of old mining equipment such as the collection of miners lamps. You can explore the coal mine and travel 140m underground to see just what the miners. There are also random events that happen every so often for example there is a Heritage walk. For more information on events you can click here.
With the site wanting to be as natural and accessible as possible not every area is easily accessed, especially for those in wheelchairs. Assistances dogs are welcome at the museum. Ideally contacting National Coal Mining Museum beforehand could help with them assisting your needs.
