Situated beside the wonderful North Bay Beach and Peasholm Park, a trip to Scarborough wouldn’t be complete without hopping aboard the North Bay Railway!
The North Bay Railway consists of miniature trains which shuttle you between Peasholm and Scalby Mills. You can enjoy a picturesque journey with wonderful seaside views and experience history once you hop aboard this famous railway. Indeed, this 20-inch gauge railway has been chugging along the Scarborough seaside since 1931, making it one of the oldest miniature railways in England.
There’s a (train) load more for you to discover when visiting the railway. At the railway lakeside, you can walk on water in an air sealed hamster ball, cruise across the waters in an electric boat and splash down the water chute! Indeed, the water chute is one of only three left in England, making it a real treat to see. Little adventurers can also brave the Sky Trail, a multi-level beam and rope bridge course.
Be sure to check their website for upcoming special events that are run throughout the year. Previous examples include Halloween nights, Christmas light shows and Santa Specials.
The North Bay Railway is ideal for all the family. Indeed, dogs, pushchair users, wheelchair users and mobility scooter users can get in on the fun too! There is wheelchair and pushchair access to the station directly from the car parks at both Peasholm and Scalby Mills.
Station Guards patrol the railway and are able to assist visitors with mobility issues to access the platform area and train. They can also direct wheelchair and pushchair users to end carriages, with ramp access to the train. Here you can park up in designated wheelchair spaces and enjoy the journey.
The North Bay Railway’s accessibility statement provides further information and you can ring the given number to ask any further questions.
Why not hop off the train and explore more of Scarborough has to offer? The Railway station is a short walk away from the fascinating Sea Life Centre and numerous open top bus tours. You can show your bus tour or Sea Life tickets at the railway for a 10% discount! Round off your trip with a visit to the wonderful nearby beach of North Bay, for a paddle in the sea, before getting back on the train to end the day.
