Tucked between Runswick Bay and Whitby Beach you will find the sandy shoreline of Sandsend Beach, skirted by a picture-perfect village.
Sandsend Beach offers sweeping views across the dramatic Yorkshire coastline, and you can even spot the romantic ruins of Whitby Abbey when gazing out over the shoreline. Sandsend village is backed by cliffs, providing a dramatic backdrop for some wonderful undisturbed photographs. The beach is quite remote so you can enjoy relaxing along sandy shores in peace.
At low tide, large swathes of sand are exposed, which make for wonderful sandcastles, walks and relaxation spot for those wanting to recharge. Each day you can find tide times on the side of the shop by Sandsend Café. Many rockpools are also revealed, which are perfect for children to peek at in search of marine wildlife. In the summer months, there is a designated area just for swimming, so you can paddle away without interruption.
Though Sandsend is quieter than other beaches in the area, it makes for a wonderful family day-out. It is the perfect spot to enjoy all that the Yorkshire Coast has to other without the racket found at most other beaches. So pack some towels and a good book and head over to Sandsend for a trip you won’t forget!
Dogs are permitted to restricted areas of Sandsend Beach. Dogs are allowed on the North end of the beach from 1st May to 30th September.
There is a pubic car park next to the beach (YO21 3TD). You must pay to park here between the hours 8am-6pm.
