The Souter Lighthouse is a national trust protected museum and provides a wide rang of activities to do. Check out the website for more details. Along the coast line we saw birds all kinds of birds ranging from shags, cormorants, kittiwakes, and guillemots. The happy red and white lighthouse invited us to a cup of tea and a bite to eat.

A particularly sweet aspect of the lighthouse treats is that they shaped and shaded them to resemble the lighthouse itself. Some very tasty shortbread was purchased. Whilst there was indoor seating we chose to sit outside in their varying garden levels. The outdoor eating area was decorated with irises of different colours.

Some of the seating offered was very unique. For example, there was a seat made out of an upturned boat within one of the fenced gardens. The staff where extremely friendly and attentive. The tasty treats where cooked onsite.  Drinks could be taken from coolers dotted along the inside wall of the café. Another fabulous feature of the outdoor eating areas was that there where allot of windbreaks. So be ready with a sunhat, shades and suncream when you choose to visit.

Accessibility

Whilst the trail leading towards the lighthouse is rough and uneven the lighthouse itself is actually quiet flat on the way up to and into the café itself. Making it easier to push either a wheelchair or a pram around the vicinity. Furthermore there are ramps up to some of the garden areas and listen to the sounds of the water crashing against the rocks.

Although staff where not specifically trained to understand the needs of autistic people and those suffering with dementia they are very happy to help in any way that they can. The lighthouse itself is fairly quiet making it easier to hear conversations. However, this will depend upon who s visiting the lighthouse itself.

The floor of the café is plain in one colour and so may not feel too hard for those with dementia to walk across. The café does have Wi-Fi for those who need to use a hearing link. All dogs not just guide dogs are welcomed. Bowls of water can be provided.
