What is St Mary’s Lighthouse

St Mary’s lighthouse is a lighthouse located just north of Whitley Bay. The lighthouse is on a location that is classes as a part-time island that means at certain times the ground that links it to the mainland when the tide is up is above the ground making the concrete pathway made go underwater.

What is there to do?

There is the lighthouse you can explore and get a great view of the surrounding area and habitats. The surrounding area have:

  • Rockpools
  • Clifftop Grassland 
  • Beach 
  • Newly created wetland habitats

There are events that happen every so often that you can see on the website as it changes. A example of a event are.

What is the accessibility like? 

Be warned as it is a part time island make sure that you keep note of when you can cross as you don’t want to be stuck. Also for people who want to get to the top of the lighthouse its 137 steps so take that in mind
