Founded in 1864, this charity has now expanded, and its work spans several areas. They were initially set up as a rescue service for those in trouble off the coast. This service involves; a search and rescue team, a museum dedicated to the history of maritime wrecks and the work of the brigade, a coast watch service and the fundraising team. Community groups and school visits are catered for, and in house talks are given as well as an outreach, community based service.
