What is Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade (SVKB)?

Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade or SVKB for short is a charity. They started with using shore based rocket equipment that would save crew from ships in distress.

History

The first volunteer life brigade was founded in Tynemouth in 1864. It was created because of the wreck of Stanley at the entrance of the river Tyne. Four local lifeboats tried to reach the wreck however could not so reach them because of high seas. For the way they saved them and why they became what they are know check out the [link]
