The Old Town Hall is a Grade I listed building in Greenmarket. The Town Hall has held a prominent position in Carlisle city centre since its initial construction sometime prior to 1345. The current building is a refurbished and extended version of the Town Hall built in 1668. The ground floor has historically been used for commercial reasons, it often houses shops of various kinds even to this day. However, the first floor has had many uses. For example, it was the Court of Assize until 1881, a Magistrate’s Court until 1941 and home of the City of Carlisle Corporation until 1964. Of course, today it is home to the Tourist Information Centre and the Assembly Room.

Previously court rooms, the Assembly Room are now a for hire event hall in the Old Town Hall. The hall can be hired for a range of events including fairs, conferences and training, and weddings! A selection of refreshment packages are available and there is a fully functioning kitchen that is free to use. With its original wood panelling and beautiful fireplaces, the Assembly Room is the ideal venue for an event in central Carlisle.
